Books and Beer Club 2 Go – Episode 1

Welcome to the Books and Beer Club podcast!

If you like books and beer, or either, you’ve come to the right place! We’ll discuss what we’re reading and what we’re drinking. And if you listen to books, or don’t drink beer – You’re welcome to join us too! The more the merrier!

This is our first real episode since Episode 0 was basically an introduction.

The Beer

Shiner S'more Brown Ale

Shiner S’moreSpoetzl Brewery , Shiner TX
This is a seasonal brown ale inspired by the traditional campfire treat.

Satisfy your beer tooth – Inspired by our favorite campfire treat, this limited-time, seasonal release is made with dark, roasted malts that serve up notes of cinnamon and caramel, backed by subtle hints of graham cracker and vanilla. It’s a full-bodied, slightly sweet brew that’s sure to make you one happy camper

The Book

I Was Told There’d be Cake – Sloane Crosley
I choose this as a change of pace from Sci-fi/Fantasy and books on writing.
It’s a collection of 15 essays. The way the author uses language is lovely. Unfortunately, the organization and form of the essays, not so much. They tend to be wandering and rambling, and many have no point.
I only kept reading because of the use of language. I cannot really recommend this book unless you want to read it purely for the author’s voice and the way she uses words. I will probably give this one away or take it to Half Price Books.

The Beer, again

3.75-4 out of 5 stars. Definite dark chocolate and marshmallow notes. The vanilla, cinnamon, and graham cracker notes are there, but much less obvious. Sweet in an almost sticky, marshmallow way so it might not be to everyone’s taste.
